Coaching Staff

CHRIS JOBLIN | ASSISTANT COACH

Arkansas State baseball head coach Mike Silva announced Monday the addition of former Miami Marlins area scout Chris Joblin to the Red Wolves' staff.

Joblin served as the head coach at Galveston College from 2013-2018 before joining the Marlins organization. He finished with a 199-148 overall record with the Whitecaps, winning a conference championship in 2014 and making six consecutive NJCAA Region XIV Tournament appearances.

Joblin produced an NJCAA All-American in four consecutive seasons and sent 11 players to the professional level. Two of those players, Gerardo Reyes and Gabe Klobosits, made it to The Show.

"My wife, Teena, our children, Jett and Cooper, and I are extremely excited to be here in Jonesboro," said Joblin. My family and I would like to thank Jeff Purinton, Mike Silva, and the entire athletics administration for their excitement, support, and encouraging welcome to Arkansas State University. I am thankful for the opportunity to help lead Arkansas State baseball into a new and exciting chapter!"

He began his coaching career as an assistant at New Mexico Junior College in 2010 and took the same position at Clarendon College one year later. He was elevated to head coach ahead of the 2012 campaign before departing after one season.

The Bulldogs ranked inside the top 10 in NJCAA for team batting average and appeared in the Region V Tournament in both seasons.

"I am excited to have Chris and his family join our staff for the upcoming season," Silva said. "We worked together in the past and I have been waiting a long time to find a way to work with him again. We are fortunate to bring him in from the Marlins, and I know his professional experience will help take our program to new heights."

JERRY CERVANTEZ | ASSISTANT COACH

Arkansas State baseball head coach Mike Silva announced Tuesday the addition of former Texas State assistant coach Jerry Cervantez to the Red Wolves' staff.

Cervantez arrives in Jonesboro after spending the last six years with the Bobcats. He served as the hitting and catching coach, playing an important role in their 2019 Sun Belt Conference championship and 2022 Sun Belt West Division title.

Texas State established a new team record for home runs in 2022 (87) and nearly matched that mark the next season (83). Cervantez helped lead the program to its first regional finals in school history and guided Dalton Shuffield to All-American and Sun Belt Player of the Year honors.

"I am excited to be joining Coach Silva's staff at Arkansas State," said Coach Cervantez. "Mike is one of the best in the business and I'm honored he has put his trust in me. I look forward to embracing the culture as we compete for Sun Belt Championships and prepare our student-athletes for excellence in life."

Cervantez worked as an assistant coach at Clarendon College from 2013-2015, overseeing hitting and recruiting along with strength and conditioning. He became the pitching and catching coach at Western Texas College ahead of the 2016 season, leading the conference in earned run average during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

"We are pleased to have Jerry join our staff for the upcoming season," Silva said. "He has worked and grinded through all levels of college baseball over the years and is very deserving of this opportunity. Our players are going to benefit daily from his attention to detail and passion for player development!"

CODY LIVINGSTON | ASSISTANT COACH

Arkansas State baseball head coach Mike Silva announced Wednesday the addition of veteran coach Cody Livingston to the Red Wolves' staff.

Livingston spent three years working with pitchers at Nicholls, playing a significant role during their conference championship runs in 2023 and 2024. Under his leadership, the Colonels' pitching staff ranked inside the top-100 nationally in most statistical categories last season.

The team ranked fifth in the nation for shutouts (6), 55th in hits allowed per nine innings (8.99), 70th in WHIP (1.49), 78th in strikeouts per nine innings (9.0), and 74th in earned run average (5.23). Livingston also produced six all-conference selections and one Southland Conference freshman of the year during his time in Thibodaux.

"I am extremely honored to be a part of the Arkansas State family. I am grateful to Mike Silva for trusting me with this incredible opportunity," Livingston said. "I am excited to be back in the state of Arkansas and I look forward to getting started working with our staff and players to help further the success of Arkansas State baseball."

After four years as a pitcher at Southern Miss, Livingston joined the Little Rock coaching staff as an assistant in 2018. The Trojans earned their first postseason victory in eight years during his first season and won 29 games while finishing second in the Sun Belt one year later.

He became an assistant at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in 2020, coaching five All-MACCC selections and one All-NJCAA selection over two seasons with the program.

"I am excited to welcome Cody and his wife, Kelsea, to our family," Silva said. "He has been with me from day one at Nicholls, playing an important role in building the program. I know he will do an outstanding job developing our pitchers and I can't wait to continue coaching with him in the future!"
